Seeing matchEachEmptyAllowed not working with regex values

Question

Using the following "simple" test, I see that the optional ## and/or matchEachEmptyAllowed is not accounting for a empty value, but null is working as expected. Is there something simple I am missing or is this a new/known issue?

This is not a valid use of Karate. The ##() syntax is only supported within JSON or XML. Nowhere in the documentation or examples is it ever mixed with a regex.

To account for an empty string using a regex function, add (?=\s*$) as a possibility

For the above example here is the resulting variable assignment
