Why doesn't flatMap behave the same as consecutive calls to map then flat?

Should the result of applying flatMap on the same array be identical to applying map then flat on it?

Consider the follow code snippet:

The first outputs a numeric value: 287 while the second outputs an array as follows:

The expected behavior is that they both return the same output. Or is it?
