React frontend and Jersey2 backend Without Spring Build into single War file for Tomcat8

Question

I've follow the instruction of this post: How to Package Your React App with Spring Boot to build a project,
but the war file doesn't contain the REACT built static files.

Unlike the demo project in the article, frontend-maven-plugin doesn't copy the content of frontend/build into target folder.

Is it possible to build REACT+Jersey2+Tomcat8 WITHOUT Spring?
